Welcome to The Best Lack All Conviction Blog

This blog is not about anything other than the things I want to write about.
For a long time this blog tried to be about darts and may yet again talk about darts
but for now it is about whatever suits my fancy.
If that entertains, engages or inspires you, then I guess we are in good company.

My sister also has a blog that is written by her pet border collie

Taking Flight: Darts Mentoring with George Silberzahn's Flight School

I am still anxiously waiting to find out whether or not we made it into the playoffs for the summer dart league while also feeling growing excitement for the upcoming fall season with a new team and wondering what it will be like moving from being a spare, to not only a regular player, but also a co-captain!  I suppose I can only do my best!
To help get me there I have signed up for something called 'Flight School' which is an online darts mentoring program run by an American darts player named George Silberzahn.
I had seen the flight school program before and had been reluctant, but after seeing it get the seal of approval on the Darts Nutz forum I thought I'd give it a try. Oh, and yes it is 100% free. He has a book, but you don't need to buy it to do the course.
As for the course itself, you answer a it of a survey to identify where you are at and possibly specific things you might want to work on, and then he sends you material as well as practice routines and the explanation of the idea and thought behind them.  I have only started, but I must admit I like what I see.  I like his approach and attitude and I also like that if I need to I can email and ask questions.
I will keep you all posted on my time in Flight School and how much it helps my game.  I suspect there might even be an article at some point.

Even at this early stage though I would suggest checking it out!!

Darts: The End of Summer Season and Looking Forward.

Well the regular season of summer darts league has come to a close. The league game was a little anti-climactic as the opposing team forfeit, leaving us with a 12-0 win without breaking a sweat.  Luckily there was a lot of people around so we still managed a great night of darts, including the 171 shown in the picture.  It's nice to know that all the tons and tons of practice I put in is starting to pay some dividends!
I was also a little shocked but very flattered to receive an invite to come play in the next division up.  I think it would be a great experience to play with some of the higher calibre players I would find there.  I am, however very new to darts and think I need to learn a bit more, and pay my dues a little.  I will be staying in 'C' to co-captain a team of the people who got me into playing darts in the first place.  Moving up can hopefully be something I can look at next season.

In the meantime, here is a quick article I wrote on Darts Practice.  I can not stress enough how important that constructive, non-stressful practice can be for improving your darts game!

Darts: Nearing The End of Summer League

Later today, unless there is a playoff format that rivals the leniency of the Canadian Football League, I will be playing my last game of the summer season. I did not even play a full season, and while I did get at least one game each outing I was a spare.  It has been, however my first time playing in a  dart league ever.
Later next month I will be starting the Fall season as a regular member of a different team.  I think having had this summer league experience will be a big help.  In fact I did OK, with a chance to end on a positive record.  Let's just see how I do tonight!

I am also working on a new darts article that deals with practice routines, but in the meantime I have found a nifty darts forum called Darts Nutsz which is well worth checking out.

Ok, wish me luck!  I'll report back soon with the results and my impressions!

Darts: Facing the guy who faced the guy..

Well, I think time to update on what happened with last nights darts match, the second last of the season, with a question mark as of yet to where the cut off line is for playoffs.  On that I suppose it is just a wait and see issue.
As for last night, we were up against the current 2nd place overall team (we are 18th overall by comparison.)  We, as you might have guessed lost, but while there was some disappointment there was no regrets,    as we made it very close (7-5) against a superior team.  The last time our team faced them (before I was a member) I am tolld that we lost 11-1!!  Ouch!!  Much better the second time around!!  I'm really proud of the team!
So how did I do?  Well I had a new partner for cricket this week, as Mr. Fred Winter did a lot of the heavy lifting, but not all of it as we put in a solid team effort against a pair of players who had a combined record of 20 and 3!!  They were fantastic players and good sportsmen, and you know what?  We found a way to beat them!  Two nil! Considering this is only my 5th week playing in a  darts league ever, I think I can check this off as being my biggest win yet! (With all due credit to Fred who did more than his part!)
I wasn't done yet though! I had one more game which in which I lost, OK, got thoroughly trounced by a man named Bill Neilson.  Bill was an absolute gentleman, but also way out of my skill range.  I was very happy to be allowed the challenge though.  You see it turns out that I lost to the guy who lost to Colin Loyd!!  To me that is just awesome!
i am determined to one day play Bill again and give him a challenge, possibly beat him.  I have a very long way to go and no guarantees that I will get there.  I was told that this was 'never going to happen' and that I was 'dreaming' by someone on the team, which hurt as I 'd rather not have my friends defeat me before I even start.
It's a long way to go though, I am very new and have a lot to learn.  For now I am just going to have fun, practice, practice and practice and not look too far ahead.  I'll get to where I am getting to when I have gone got there.

Just glad to have you all along for the journey!  See you next time!!

Here is a nicely constructed article from a fellow writer on HubPages on Owls.  (which reminds me of a couple of other bird related things I'll want to post soon!)
Considering that sadly there is a lot of crap published it is nice to find some real pieces with at least an attempt at some substance, and when I find them I am happy to promote them.  Frankly I think you should be too!
In any event here is ..  Owls: Facts, Symbolism and Meaning
take a look and by all means check out her other work as well including her Personal Photo Blog:  Pictimilitude

Enjoy!!
