Welcome to The Best Lack All Conviction BlogThis blog is not about anything other than the things I want to write about.
For a long time this blog tried to be about darts and may yet again talk about darts but for now it is about whatever suits my fancy. If that entertains, engages or inspires you, then I guess we are in good company. My sister also has a blog that is written by her pet border collie . Callum the Border Collie ands his Autistic Human Please follow her page and show her some support. She has been having a tough time living alone since our mother passed from cancer. |
![]() Well, my first game has come and gone in my first full season of darts, playing alongside the friends who brought me into the world of darts in the first place. It was also my wife Rebecca's first league game of any type! (In fact she has only been playing darts a few weeks, for which she has put in a ton of practice time!) I ended up with a fairly satisfying record on the night of 2 wins and 1 loss, taking a win in doubles 501 (along with my wife who was my partner) a win in singles 501 and then finally getting beaten in doubles cricket (I was the weaker partner in that too). The funny thing with the wins though, was that I actually shot fairly poorly but simply managed to hit the doubles for the outs. This I think I can give credit to Flight School for, so for sure check it out from the links at the top of the page! Overall, not a bad first night. So, of course what I do the next day is quit the team. No, don't worry, I am not quitting darts. Far from it in fact. It just wasn't the team for us. A fun and great bunch of friends, but staying would have killed darts for me. Not to despair, they will survive without my wife and I quite ably, and so we are off to a new team (and league) on Tuesday nights and will also be starting up in a Thursday league which will be interesting as that is a work night, so maybe a bit of an experiment into completely sober darts. I am still so new to all of this, but very much still learning. I feel that a new plateau is just around the corner, but that I need to let it come. I think I can, and I think I can have a good time getting there. If there is darts in your area I recommend checking it out for sure! If you are in or around Toronto like I am, one place you might want to check out is torontodarts.com which has a listing of leagues you can join. In fact I think once I post this I'll give them a perma-link at the top of the page. See you all next time! Happy darting!!

Life as a newly married man has kept me a bit from posting, but not from the world of darts, as my wife is also plunging into the darts and she is a new comer, but has shown a level of enjoyment, but as well focus and dedication that will allow her to improve in leaps and bounds.
I am still a beginner myself, but one thing I have learned, and which I would pass on to anyone stating up the game, as I did with my wife. That is, that practice works. Time spent on your own, doing practice drills/exercises will reap rewards. The trick to it though, is that you have to not be competitive with yourself, and to let the new plateaus of skill come when they come. Above all else, have fun and just enjoy it and dont sweat a bad dart, since all you can do is throw the next one and why take the chance of making that one bad too by getting down on yourself? One place you might also want to look as far as getting better at darts is Flight School which is free and a very good program. You might also have noticed that indeed the Abominable Throw man has a spiffy new look! That awesome little graphic is the forum signature that was done for me by one of the community members at the Darts Nutz forum! I think it looks pretty ace! Tuesday is the start of the Autumn dart season, and I am excited but also in a bit of an odd spot, as this is my first full season in darts and first season as a full member, but I am also co-captain and expected to figure out/handle the pairings and match ups. It's certainly the kind of job I enjoy, and we're playing with a great bunch of people, but well... I'd say it was like herding cats, except the cats would be easier to manage! I know some willful people, perhaps myself included. Well, lets just see how it goes! I will keep you all posted!! ![]() Just a quick post and a brief respite from my darts madness to let everyone know that the latest installment of the ongoing Horace of the Horizon series is now out. As I explain, I do think I will be slowing down, but it still does bring me enough pleasure to not quit it completely, so yes do stay tuned for more! I'll be back soon with more of the darts as there is indeed a bit going on, with fall season going on and me possibly mulling a Canadian made set of darts. More on all that later. Here is the story.. Horace of the Horizon-Part 9 ![]() Well now I am a happily married man and I am feeling very lucky indeed. The wedding was small but the ceremony was spot on and it was just amazing to see how well everyone got along. Of course like any truly great wedding my wife and a whole bunch of us from the wedding went out for darts afterwards. My wife is new to the game, but enjoys it and is focused and learning! In the photo you can see me considering my next shot after landing a single twenty. You can bet I needed the treble!! Tomorrow it is off to our honeymoon on the Toronto islands! (With a quick return to the mainland planned for a bit of darts!) I will see you all again in a few days or so. In the meantime I'll leave you with a couple of great dart sites to check out!! The first one is maybe a bit local, but get major kudos for being around for half a century.. South Liverpool Darts The second link is a pretty well known place, but is worth mentioning espescially as a fantastic resource for some spot on dart reviews. The place of course is.. Double16 Darts Forum Check 'em both out! See you all after my honeymoon. My dart league season starts September 25th!! - Dave 'The Abominable Throw Man' Sproull ![]() I am getting married in a few hours, and truth be told I should be sleeping, but excitement and anticipation has me restless and awake! Before too long I'll need to force myself into a bit more rest for a long and very special day ahead, but for right now I wanted to share with you a dart collection that is not mine, but I wish it was. Check it out. He has a few for sale, but mostly it is just fun to check out the sheer variety! Dazdart's Dart Photo Collection See you all after the Abominable Throw Man is very happily married!! |
