Welcome to The Best Lack All Conviction BlogThis blog is not about anything other than the things I want to write about.
For a long time this blog tried to be about darts and may yet again talk about darts but for now it is about whatever suits my fancy. If that entertains, engages or inspires you, then I guess we are in good company. My sister also has a blog that is written by her pet border collie . Callum the Border Collie ands his Autistic Human Please follow her page and show her some support. She has been having a tough time living alone since our mother passed from cancer. |
It looks like a bit of an odd thing has happened. Two thirds of the way through my league game this past Tuesday the team captain stepped down and appointed me Captain in his stead. Now, I knew I would be taking over the team in the Fall, but this was unexpected. It is a good thing though, a very good thing. Not that being Captain of a dart team will get you on any magazine covers (well at least not at our level) I have inherited a core of players that have a great attitude, have a heap of talent, and are really quite new. I think that is exciting. The only worry I have is whether it will affect my own personal growth as a player, with worries about the team creeping into my mind as I try to focus at the oche. Life is a million distractions though, isn't it? I believe I can balance both, or certainly learn to. Of course with a team of avid and talented players you might be wondering whether I will be using Flight School to help develop their talents and understanding and enjoyment of darts. As much as I love Flight School, I am not going to force it on anyone, but I am going to introduce it to the team and they can decide whether they want it or not. In terms of the team developing, especially if we plan to stick together over several seasons I really do hope that at least a couple of the team members will give it a go. you see, there may very well be better darts training/coaching programs (Although I'm skeptical of that) but I doubt they are free. I also think that the perspective towards development that Flight School has is superior. If you are someone who maybe has snuck a quick peek at Flight School you may have been given the impression that it is 'just some drills'. It is a lot more than that, with a lot of the lessons providing a certain level of meaning when you are at one level of understanding, and having additional, more refined meaning as you develop. Any questions you have, and George is there to answer them. He may not be a household name for a lot of people, but he is in the American National Darts Hall of Fame and had a career that has spanned a good fifty years and has seen him toe the oche against the likes of Eric Bristow and John Lowe. The guy knows what he is talking about and is willing to share his knowledge and mentor, and he does it for free. He does have a book you can buy, but he will never push it on you, and he will not treat you any different whether you buy the book or not. This month will mark my first year as a Flight School student. When I first found out about Flight School I was skeptical, but now think I was lucky to find it. Even if somehow, left to my own devices i would have developed the same level of prowess, I would still not have the advantages of the perspectives and attitudes that Flight School has instilled in me. Now as much as I think Flight School is a great thing I am sometimes hesitant to talk about it as it brushes against people's preconceived notions and Toronto cynicism and of course maybe more than all else is weighed against my own reputation, which in all fairness ranges from 'not there' to 'still building'. In any event I'll bring it up with the team, if only to let them know that there is something out there, and that it is free and that it wont tell you how to hold a dart or where to stand. Heck, Flight School doesn't even tell you how to throw a dart! Now, I wonder what the team will think of that? Almost Time to Give Out Prizes! If you didn't know already, we like to give out a few prizes around here. You can see all the details on the top right-hand of this page, but in a nutshell a combined tally of Google+ followers and email subscribers (either or both count) and right now we are just 5 away from our first prize of three sets of SEWA dart flights. As more people join the prizes get better too, with a set of the SEWA darts up for grab and even some Cosmo Flit Flight shafts and flights. if you aren't using the Fit Flight system yet, I highly recommend it and while the upfront price may seem a bit much,i would suggest that int he long run they are more economical than standard flights. You can also check out my review of the Red Dragon SEWA darts to see a little more on what you'd be winning! Of course at the current rate it might take a while to get to the 250 followers/subscribers!! Maybe I should find a way to make it easier for all of you to win prizes? I'd like to, but let me think on that one! Maybe include likes on my Facebook page as well? Maybe, but let me think on that one!! If you have any ideas please let me know! Just know I want to give out prizes, and the more connections I have to all of you, the more willing sponsors will be to pony up with awesome loot!
