Welcome to The Best Lack All Conviction BlogThis blog is not about anything other than the things I want to write about.
For a long time this blog tried to be about darts and may yet again talk about darts but for now it is about whatever suits my fancy. If that entertains, engages or inspires you, then I guess we are in good company. My sister also has a blog that is written by her pet border collie . Callum the Border Collie ands his Autistic Human Please follow her page and show her some support. She has been having a tough time living alone since our mother passed from cancer. |
As one might have guessed by my earlier post comparing darts (Harrow's 18g Assassin vs Talon 25g) I have been roped into the world of darts, a fun relatively inexpensive and social game that also lends itself nicely to the mildly obsessive. I am a relative newcomer to the game, but I would say an eager newcomer. I do not have any thoughts of becoming a top flight player, and in fact traditionally with these kinds of games I tend to be a bit crap. So my thinking then, is not to be good to any elevated status, but to practice and focus enough to simply be'not crap' whatever that may mean for me, and have a bunch of fun in the process. Well with that in mind I have my first ever league game coming up. I am the spare player. On a 'C' league team. In the summer. That being said, I'm planning on giving it a go at coming out with a win. I have even come up with a strategy, which is simply to shoot a consistent 60 points and not worry about hitting the tripples, which I hope will have the psychological factor of forcing my opponent to think they need to make high shots. Once I get down to 100 or so I'd try to take it down to the double 16 finish. A fine plan indeed. Well except today I decide to see what kind of average I could actually get. I took 52 turns shooting (which is when I ran out of space on my little chalk board) and well, on an up note threw a few 95s, but in the end I ended up with an average just a hair over 40 points. A big kick in the teeth for my 'throw a consistent 60 points'. In fact it's maybe even a bit crap, or if one is generous, painfully mediocre. Does this mean I give up on my plan? No, not at all. In fact I am not even the least bit daunted. To me the practice doesn't show me what I can do, but rather where I need to be. There is a reason that I am not planning on throwing 180s. It's simply not a realistic goal. Hitting a consistent 60 points will be a big challenge for me, but it's a challenge I think I can meet. We'll find out soon enough! I'll post a follow up!!
